2015 NFL Divisional Round Preview – Arizona Cardinals Vs. Green Bay Packers

The Packers (10-6) looked like their old selves in their win over the Redskins last week, but face a much tougher test taking one the Cardinals (13-3) in Arizona.

Previous Matchup:

Week 16 – Arizona 38, Green Bay 8

When the Packers Have the Ball:

The Packers looked better last week but they still didn’t perform like an elite offense. The running game was really good but it wasn’t dominant and Rodgers didn’t put up huge numbers. It’s been a struggle all year for Green Bay’s receivers to get open for Rodgers and that will likely continue today. Rodgers should think about scrambling more today. It might be their best way to move the ball.

There are no holes in the Cardinal’s defense. They’re not great at rushing the passer but their secondary is so good it doesn’t matter. They don’t leave much room for the opposing running game either.

When the Cardinals Have the Ball:

The Cardinals led the league in yards per game and were second in scoring. The difference with this team this year is that their offense is truly elite. Carson Palmer has been fantastic and Larry Fitzgerald has had a big comeback year. Their running game isn’t the disaster it’s been the last few years either. Rookie David Johnson has played well since becoming the starting running back.

The Packers defense is better than people think. Their secondary and ability to rush the quarterback combine for a top level pass defense. There are yards to be had against their defense on the ground though. They should be able to slow Palmer but David Johnson might have himself a big day.

Key Matchup:

Randall Cobb Vs. Patrick Peterson

Cobb was held to just 3 catches for 15 yards in their last matchup. Cobb needs to do more for Green Bay to pull off the upset.

The Pick: Cardinals -7

The Cardinals crushed the Packers the last time they played and I don’t think Green Bay has turned it around enough to make this a one score game.
