E3, the world’s largest video games convention, begins next week. This is one of the most anticipated events for gaming fans. It gives us some first looks at upcoming games and always has a few big surprise announcements. We’ll be previewing the entire event starting with Nintendo.
What You’ll Definitely See
The Legend of Zelda
Finally we’ll see some real gameplay for the next Zelda game. It seems like ages ago when were first showed some test footage. But Nintendo promises an early 2017 release for the game and will be focusing on showcasing the game for this year’s E3.
Metroid Prime: Federation Force
This not as exciting as it sounds. This game is for the 3DS and is a Co-op spinoff of the Metroid Prime series, not a real Metroid game.
The newest games in the long running handheld series were announced a few months ago. Now we’ll actually get to see the games. Pokemon may be over 20 years old now, but it’s still one of the most popular franchises and always generates excitement.
What You Won’t See
Nintendo’s next console, codenamed NX, is expected to be released at some point in 2017. We still don’t know much more than that. And we won’t get any more at E3. Nintendo has announced they won’t be showing its new console at the event.
What We Hope To See
We haven’t seen a real 3D Mario game since 2010’s Super Mario Galaxy 2. That’s quite a while. Now just because Nintendo won’t be showing the NX, it doesn’t mean they can’t show some of the games in production for it.
The New Retro Studios Game
After finishing up Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in 2014, Retro Studios announced they had already been working on a new game for a few months. We don’t have any idea what it will be but we hope to find out at E3.
Nintendo will broadcast their event June 14 on Youtube as well as their own website.
