2016 NBA Playoff Preview – (2) San Antonio Spurs Vs. (7) Memphis Grizzlies

In most years the Spurs (67-15) would have the #1 seed but they’ll have to settle for the second seed and a matchup with the Grizzlies (42-40), who have the second longest playoff streak behind the Spurs.

The Spurs are arguably the best team in the NBA. Until the final week of the season, the Spurs had the highest point differential in the NBA. I think the Warriors are still better (the Spurs did lose to them twice in that final week) but that doesn’t mean San Antonio wasn’t one of the best teams of all time this year.

The Grizzlies on the other hand, were far from the best team of all time. They might be the worst team to ever be in the playoffs, as currently constructed. They finished the season with a -2.2 point differential which puts them between the Orlando Magic and the Knicks, two teams that were not playoff competitors. And that -2.2 included games where Marc Gasol and Mike Conley played. Those two, who happen to be their two best players, will not be playing in this series.

Honestly, I think most of the teams in the playoff field would sweep this Grizzlies team. They’re a total disaster right now. I can’t imagine the 67 win Spurs not getting it done.

The Pick: Spurs in 4
