Over the past few years the United States has had some big soccer teams such as Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chelsea, AC Milan, and Liverpool play games in the US. Sometimes they play against MLS teams and sometimes against another big name opponent from out of country. I think this is good for soccer in the US because as we’ve seen from the last world cup, soccer is slowly making it’s presence known in the US. When you get these big opponents playing MLS teams such as the LA Galaxy, Portland Timber, Seattle Sounder, and New York Red Bulls it helps get the MLS noticed.
When people in the United States talk about soccer they mostly talk about the teams we mentioned and players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Wayne Rooney. The MLS is starting to make noise not only by playing big opponents in the summer, but also by some of the players they’ve acquired to play in the US from other countries. Recently players such as Steven Gerrard, David Villa, Kaka and Lampard are all playing in the MLS and at one point all dominated their sport in Europe. With all of this said there’s 3 games tonight between teams from Europe and the United States.
7:30 PM Portland Timbers Vs Newcastle United
8:00 PM San Jose Earthquake Vs Manchester United
8:00 PM Los Angeles Galaxy Vs Barcelona (game at the Rose Bowl In LA)
