Did Ohio State Live Up To The Hype?

The Ohio State Buckeyes became the first team in a long time to be a unanimous #1 seed going into the season, and last night they proved the committee was correct by beating Virginia Tech 42-24. The Buckeyes offense is scary good led by quarterback Cardale Jones, elite running back Ezekiel Elliott, and former quarterback now everything man Braxton Miller. Miller was Ohio States quarterback going into last season before he got hurt, and now that he’s healthy the team decided to put him at wide receiver¬†and he didn’t disappoint. Miller had 2 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown and also had 6 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown. Then you add their running back Ezekiel Elliott who had an 80 yard touchdown run on his first carry of the game, and ended the game with 122 yards on 11 carries. Elliott ended last season strong; in his final 3 games against Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon he had 696 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns.

On top of having a very deadly offense they also have a very good defense. Last night they absolutely shutdown Virginia Tech in the 2nd half minus a garbage time touchdown with all their backups in. Their other 2 touchdowns came off a muffed punt that set up a touchdown and a little pass to their fullback who took it 51 yards for a touchdown.  This was all without defensive lineman Joey Bosa who some are comparing to J.J. Watt.

Of course early on in the season teams will come out a little shaky and get better as the season goes on, so by the time we’re in November we will see a very exciting and dangerous football team. Their toughest opponent all season long is #5 ranked Michigan State at home, other than that they have a schedule where they should win every game without a problem. The Ohio State Buckeyes got hot at the right time last season and won the championship, and with Braxton Miller back being an absolute weapon on the field I expect them to run the table and win their 2nd straight championship.
