E3 2016 – Microsoft

Microsoft and the Xbox team held the first conference of the day. They had a lot to present but did they generate enough excitement to close the gap on Sony and their Playstation 4?

Xbox One S

Looks like Microsoft is taking name ideas from Apple. No this isn’t the hardware upgrade you may have heard of. This is a slimmer version of the same xbox one that came out almost 3 years ago.

Gears of War 4

A much longer look at some Gears of War 4 campaign gameplay. It was already leaked that you would be playing as the son of Marcus Fenix so the end of this trailer might not be much of a surprise. Maybe the most exciting thing is that Gears 4 will be on both Xbox One and PC with cross-buy and cross-play.

Killer Instinct

The fighting game is still being updated and they will be adding a Gears of War character to the roster.

Forza Horizon 3

This pretty much confirms that Forza is now permanently an annual franchise. These games always look beautiful and are always top notch but are you really already bored of Forza Motorsport 6?

So we finally get our first look at the gameplay for this new game. It doesn’t seem all that interesting but I’m still optimistic about the game. It comes out in a few¬†months too.

Dead Rising 4

This was leaked a little while ago so there wasn’t any surprise with this announcement. Nut still, the game looks like the same kind of stupid fun we’ve got before from the earlier games. And this one has a Christmas theme.

I think is the 3rd time showing this game and yet it still won’t be out until 2017.

Final Fantasy XV

You would expect this to be shown at Sony’s conference but really, who cares? This looks ridiculous. And finally it’s confirmed for release this year.

Sea of Thieves

Here’s some gameplay for Rare’s Sea of Thieves but I’m still confused. There’s pirates though.

State of Decay 2

Another zombie game? This could be really good but I’m worried there’s just too many zombie games right now. This was a good trailer though.

Halo Wars 2

While this is a Halo game, it’s not really a Halo game. I’m sure fans of the first one are excited but this is not Halo 6.

After saying they wouldn’t, Microsoft closed their presentation with a little bit about the Scorpio, essentially an upgraded Xbox One. They’re promising the most powerful hardware ever for a console but we haven’t seen what Sony is doing yet so maybe they’re wrong.

Final Thoughts

  • A lot of exclusives for Microsoft. They must be throwing money around.
  • No Crackdown 3. Rumored to be delayed to 2016.
  • Only two new announcements (State of Decay 2, Halo Wars 2)
  • No Hololens. What’s Microsoft doing with VR?
