E3 2016 – Ubisoft

Ubisoft was up next after Microsoft. They wouldn’t have any¬†hardware to show us so they had to wow us with some games. Did they?

Ghost Recon Wildlands

After a bizarre opening dance number Ubisoft showed a pretty lengthy gameplay clip from Ghost Recon Wildlands. Looks like it could be a really good cooperative tactical shooter. I’m not sure how much fun it will be to play alone though.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Matt and Trey were back to talk about the new South Park game. This leaves off where the last left of. You still play as New Kid/Douchebag but this time as a superhero. You can definitely see how this was inspired by the overabundance of comic book movies. The short bit we saw was very funny so that’s a great sign.

For Honor

I think this looks much better this year. There’s so many people on screen at once. I think this is what we’ve wanted for so long when it comes to these types of games. We won’t know how good it is until we test out the combat for ourselves though. It could end up being frustrating to play rather than fun.

Eagle Flight

We got to see a full multiplayer matchup for the VR exclusive game. Looks like a great application for VR but I’m not sure it would get me to buy a headset. If I did have one I would definitely check this out though.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew

Another VR exclusive, this game lets you control a ship from Star Trek. I’m not a Star Trek fan so this didn’t do much for me. Maybe if you’re a fan you’d be excited.

Watch Dogs 2

This looks really good but a little off too. Is this a serious game? It looks silly but then the subject matter seems serious. Maybe just ignore the story and enjoy the hacking.

Hey, a new series! So what is it? An open-world action sports game set in the Alps. Not quite what we would have expected. This could be really cool in VR. Maybe that’s what they’re going for.

Final Thoughts

  • Ubisoft is all in on VR.
  • They’re all in on Watch Dogs as a franchise. They announced a movie adaptation too.
  • An Ubisoft conference with no Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry games. Yet it was still good.
