Historical Comeback Today In The Champions League

Barcelona faced PSG today with PSG leading the aggregate 4-0. Barcelona went into the 1st leg of this matchup as 3-1 favorites to win the Champions League, but after losing their first game 4-0 they went into the 2nd leg as 33-1 favorites to win the tournament.

 

It took Barcelona all but 3 minutes to score the first goal of the game when Luis Suarez had a header find its way into the back of the net. Then in the 40th minute PSG netted an own goal giving Barcelona a 2-0 lead at the half. Shortly into the 2nd half Barcelona drew a penalty, and after Messi converted it Barcelona found themselves up 3-0 with 40 min left in the game. But then in the 62nd minute Edison Cavani scored a goal that looked it would end Barcelonas season, giving PSG a 5-3 lead on aggregate.

Since PSG had an away goal and Barcelona didn’t, Barcelona would need 3 more goals to win. The 88th minute came around with Barcelona still needing 3 goals to advance. Hope looked all but lost….until it wasn’t. In the 88th minute Neymar scored a free kick making the score 4-1 and leaving Barcelona needing 2 more goals.

In the 90th minute Suarez was fouled in the box giving Barcelona their second penalty of the game, after Neymar converted Barcelona was up 5-1 but still needed one more goal. Then in the 90th+5 Sergio Roberto was found open after a beautiful chip pass and scored the game winning goal. Giving Barcelona a story book finish and the best comeback in Champions League soccer history.

You don’t need to be a soccer fan to respect and appreciate what happened in this game today. As long as you’re a fan of the surreal you’ll enjoy this.
