A few days ago the LA Lakers welcomed new teammates Roy Hibbert, Lou Williams, and Brandon Bass in a press conference. After asking them a few questions, one of the reports asked them if they had heard from Kobe Bryant, and the reporter got the answer he was hoping for….silence.
Of course this caused quite a stir in the basketball world and everyone was talking about it. The Lakers have had all three of these players for a couple weeks now and as the leader of the team, I definitely think Kobe should’ve reached out to them. Having said that, I don’t think it’s as big of a deal as people are making it seem and I don’t think it means Kobe isn’t happy with his new teammate. Kobe would’ve loved to have landed a Lamarcus Aldridge, Deandre Jordan or Dwayne Wade instead, but he still got 3 solid players and he knows it.
Also I don’t think three veterans like Hibbert, Williams, and Bass need a phone call from Kobe right away or him to hold their hand during summer practice. These guys are established players and they’ll be just fine and should help the Lakers to be better than last season. Like I said in the beginning, do I think Kobe should’ve at least given these guys a phone call to welcome them to the team? Yes. I also don’t think this is a big deal and I don’t think the Lakers players are losing sleep over it, so you shouldn’t either!
