2015 Outlook:

Pittsburgh made the playoffs for the second consecutive season last year even though they won six less games than the previous year. This year they could take another step back and struggle to compete for a playoff spot. The Pirates watched Russell Martin leave in free agency and did not replace him with an impact player. AJ Burnett joins the rotation in place of Edinson Volquez which isn’t much of an upgrade.

The lineup, led by Andrew McCutchen, the best position player in the NL, should once again be among the best, but their pitching staff is questionable. The Pirates are depending on Gerritt Cole to become a true number one starter.

Player to Watch: Pedro Alvarez

Alvarez lost his third base job last year after back to back 30 home run seasons. This year he’s set to start at first base and should hit 30 plus home runs again.

2015 Projected Record: 84-78
