Netflix Picks of the Week
If you’re over cable like I am, then you most definitely have Netflix. With Netflix’s wide library of movies and up and coming TV shows, there are so many options to choose from. Here I will break down a couple movies from different genres, and one TV series. Netflix has so many movies, so don’t be alarmed if a big time movie isn’t mentioned. I have most likely seen it, but I mostly want to give people an extra reason to watch that movie they almost clicked on the other night. Each excerpt will be accompanied with my own Netflix rating. (1-5 Stars)
Action Movie of the Week: Homefront
Jason Statham stars in this action movie as DEA agent Phil Broker. Having to escape a troubled case, Phil and his daughter are relocated to small southern town. Trying to escape the life of drugs and violence Phil quickly finds that this life isn’t the best way. This town is crawling drugs, and the locals obviously don’t take well to outsiders moving into town. Gator Bodine (James Franco), the local drug trafficker, learns about Phil and puts them into a corner where Phil must revert back to his DEA ways to save them. Homefront is a very entertaining movie. James Franco strays away from his stoner comedy roles and makes a fantastic villain in this movie.

Drama Movie of the Week: Silver Linings Playbook
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence star together in this emotional movie. Pat Solatano had lost his job and his wife, and now he is returning back to his parents home from a mental institution. His one goal is to make things right and reunite with his wife, but his parents would love for him to just focus on himself for change. When Pat runs into a local widow, Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) going through a similar situation, things begin to change. Tiffany promises to reconnect Pat with his wife, but he has to do something for her in exhcange. Silver Linings playbook was a surprisingly enjoyable movie. It covers several genres including: Drama, Romance, and Comedy. The acting is obviously top notch, and the story is enjoyable for everyone. I was laughing a lot more than I expected to while watching this movie.

TV Series of the Week: Blue Mountain State
Once you watch the opening credits you will completely understand that this show is 100% geared towards men, but that doesn’t mean everyone can enjoy it. Blue Mountain State is a hilarious college TV show about a football team going through obstacles that college and football both present. Following one of the best college football teams in the nation, the show centers around Back Up Quarterback Alex Moran, and his desires to surprisingly stay the back up and enjoy the spoils that come with being a football quarterback in college. The school mascot is his best friend, and each day is a new opportunity for them to do some bewildering things. Thad Castle is the heart and soul of the football team. He always needs to be the best, and doesn’t always agree with the decisions made by Alex. Bring all of these characters together and you get a recipe for an incredible adventure. This show is one of the funniest I have ever seen. Unfortunately, the show’s fame came through Netflix, so once it was extended for more seasons on cable, it didn’t keep up with viewing ratings and the show was eventually cancelled. Luckily for us every episode is available on Netflix still.
