The Coincidence Of The Cubs Curse

Olaf Logan, Frain usher, stops William Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern at 1855 W. Madison Street from entering the ball park October 12, 1945. Sianis crashed the gate but could not seat the goat in the box. Sianis is going to sue. Tribune file photo. (baseball World Series, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers)

There’s been a lot of talk about the Chicago Cubs this postseason because of the prediction the movie, “Back To The Future 2” made. The movie goes into the future on October 21, 2015 and has the Cubs winning the World Series. Today happens to be October 21,2015 and even though the Cubs can’t win the World Series today they can be eliminated from the NLCS.

As most of us know the Cubs haven’t won a World Series since 1908 and haven’t won a World Series game since 1945. Legend has it that the reason for their struggles is the “billy goat curse”.

Story has it that in 1945 Billy Goat Tavern owner, Billy Sianis, went to the World Series game between the Cubs and Tigers. He happened to bring his billy goat, Murphy, to the game and was eventually asked to leave because his goat was stinking up the place. In outrage Billy said ” Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more.” Since then the Cubs have not won a World Series game at Wrigley Field.

The ironic thing about this is that the hitter who’s been tearing it up this postseason is Mets infielder, Daniel Murphy. Daniel Murphy has hit 3 home runs in 3 games vs the Cubs this series and has hit 6 home runs in 8 games this postseason. Is it possible that the old billy goat named Murphy is giving Daniel Murphy the power to continue to haunt the Cubs? Whether he is or isn’t continuing to haunt the Cubs this is definitely something that’s fun to talk about right now with the coincidence of the goat name Murphy and Mets hitter Daniel Murphy.
