Winter Spiced Ale
It’s Christmas time. The Most wonderful time of the year. A wonderful time for beer too. Around this time, breweries release special holiday beers just for the season. And the beers they make for the season are truly special. Don’t expect a hop bomb IPA or a fruity Belgian ale this time of year. Holiday beers are typically dark, high in alcohol, and full of spices. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year (for beer).
The holiday beer I recently enjoyed is 21st Amendment’s Fireside Chat. Fireside Chat is a dark beer but it’s not a stout or porter. 21st Amendment first starts with a dark English style ale for the base of the beer then they start adding spices to really make it a holiday beer. They pack it with a whole lot of flavor the most noticeable being the holiday staples, chocolate, ginger, and cinnamon.
At 7.9% ABV, this is not a light beer by any means. No, 7.9% isn’t quite Imperial level, but you’ll definitely feel it after a having a few. You wouldn’t know by the taste though. The spices do a great job of hiding the alcohol. You would really have to look at the label to know the alcohol content.
Fireside Chat was a very enjoyable beer and does a great job as a representative of holiday beers. It’s very easy to crack open a few of these, get under a blanket, sit next to your Christmas tree, and enjoy your holiday season. If you haven’t had your holiday party yet, why not pick up some 21st Amendment Fireside Chat. You’ll enjoy it.
