One of New Belgium’s newest beers, Portage, is an American Porter. Get it, Porter and Portage both start with Port. It’s clever, right? Does this beer have more going on than it’s name though?
New Belgium Portage is a dark brown color and at 6% ABV is typical for the style. If you have had a Porter before than you will know what to expect from Portage. There are no surprises here. The main flavors you’ll taste are chocolate and nuts. The beer is bitter but not overly so.
This beer is definitely tasty and not too much of a challenge to drink. There are better Porters out there but there are worse ones as well. This beer doesn’t offer anything new but is still a solid drink.
