Tony’s Take – Why Kentucky won’t cut the net in Indianapolis

The biggest talk in college basketball this season has been whether the Kentucky Wildcats win the national championship without losing a single game. Now don’t get me wrong, I think this team is capable of doing it, but do I think they will? No. My reason being they’ve had some close games with teams this season they should have dominated by 20+. Back on January 6th they played Ole Miss at home and almost lost in regulation as a shot at the buzzer missed on what was truly an awful possession for the Rebels of Ole Miss, which led to a 3 point Kentucky victory in overtime. Then, just 4 days later on January 10th, they played at Texas A&M another game they should’ve easily dominated and it took TWO overtimes to beat them. Then they cruised for the next month until  running into some trouble in Florida where they snuck out with a 7 point victory and then 3 days later had only a 2 point victory against LSU. Just a few days ago on March 3rd they were down by 6 with 3:30 left against Georgia and somehow pulled out an 8 point victory. Now don’t get me wrong they have beaten some very good teams pretty easily this season such as Kansas, Texas, Louisville, North Carolina and Arkansas; all teams we will be seeing in the March Madness tournament in a couple of weeks.
With all of this said, I truly believe all the hype and pressure will get to these 18-20 year old kids and they will find a team in the 2nd round, Sweet 16 or Elite 8 that I think will end their run at perfection. I just don’t see Kentucky in this years Final Four. I believe we will have another “fab five” on our hands; a young team that’s extremely talented but just not able to cut down the nets at the end of regulation in the championship game.
