This evening Las Vegas held a ceremony introducing their NHL team. They will be called the Vegas Golden Knights! A lot of people suspected just the Knights or the Black Knights, but I guess Golden Knights will do. They will begin play in the NHL next season.
The team owner, Bill Foley, said he chose this name because “my whole identity was to create a logo and a name that was powerful that would epitomize the warriors class. The Knights are the epitome of the warrior class; the top of the line in terms of defending the realm, defending the unprotected, This is all part of the culture we want to create with the hockey team.”
This will be the first time since the 2000-2001 season that the NHL will have a new team come into the league, when the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets were the newest teams. You won’t be able to purchase a Golden Knights jersey until mid-February. But other accessories such as hats, shirts, sweatshirts, and gym bags were sold outside the arena shortly after the announcement.
I’m definitely intrigued to see how a professional sports team handles the lifestyle of Vegas. There’s a lot of temptations out there. Will any players get addicted to gambling? Will opposing teams struggle because this lifestyle is thrown at them for a night or two? Time will tell, and I couldn’t be more excited to find out what happens!
